Dangers Associated with Obesity
What is obesity?
When the body gains more weight and crosses the limits of over-weight it’s termed as obesity. It’s an alarming global problem which is not taken seriously, even though the rate of obesity has considerably increased recently, with US having more than 70% of obese population!!
Why obesity?
Recent inventions and innovations have left human beings sluggish and reduced physical activity by bounds. Everything becoming globalized and modernized, everything is fast paced leaving us with no personal time.
Alcohol, Junk foods, Fast foods, Night life have made situation worse with irregular and inappropriate food habits which contribute greatly to over-weight and obesity. Obesity is dangerous and also leaves you with low-confidence due to the impact it has on one’s looks.
Several diseases are associated to obesity and over-weight like heart-attack, cardiac arrest, cancers, blood Pressure and lot more. Several people succumb to these each year and the key fact being obesity!!
Adverse effects of obesity:
It’s a well-known fact that every organ consumes energy for vital functions of our body. When people are obese, more energy is needed for breathing and heart is loaded heavily to pump blood in and out for your entire body etc. Like that each organ over works resulting in failures and strokes which are fatal. Cardiac arrest, kidney failures, strokes are associated with obesity and obesity cause blood pressure.
Obese and over-weight people naturally have high-cholesterol levels which narrow the arteries and blocks blood supply. The heart pumps faster to bring-in more blood supply to counter-act and blood pressure increases. Not only the heart is affected, it also affects the brain and kidney resulting in multi-organ failure!! These could be fatal and sometimes leaves you paralyzed for life which is worse.
Excess fat accumulated has chemical reactions which triggers cancer in both genders. Breast Cancer, Uterine Cancer for women, Colon or Prostrate Cancer in men is mostly due to excess fat deposit. There are several other disorders associated to obesity apart from the general mental and physical strain associated with it.
People, who consume more sugar, are also at high risk. Our body stores sugar in the liver mainly, but when excess they are converted into fat. In obese people even though pancreas produces high levels of insulin to regulate this fat, but they are not regulated resulting in diabetes. Diabetes alone can be the main reason for heart failure, cataract, kidney failure etc. Diabetes patients also have a problem with slow healing rate when wounded. Wounded diabetes patients often suffer abscess, which forces removal of the region thus leaving them physically challenged or leads to death when ignored.
How to tackle obesity?
To avoid any of the above mentioned hazards, maintaining body weight and leading a healthy and active lifestyle is very important. Regular exercises and balanced diet can help maintain right BMI and avoid obesity. Consumption of water is a must to regulate metabolism. Fiber rich foods help a lot with weight-reduction. Fasting once a week or month is very healthy as it cleanses your entire system and rejuvenates it. Consuming plenty of water, balanced diet sans junk or calorie-rich foods, fiber rich foods, plenty of vegetables and fruits with greens along with regular exercise are the keys to keep obesity at bay.
